This manual is designed to be a simple guide for parents to teach their children of any age to read, as well as teach the basics of cursive writing.
Section 1 uses the phonetic approach to learning to read: (1) The SOUNDS that each of the 17 consonants make, as well as recognize basic shapes; the sounds and shapes of 4 letters which have 2 sounds (c, g, s, x); the two basic sounds and shapes of the 5 vowels. In addition, this section presents about 25 sight-words for the child to memorize as well as principles of letter blends (bl, bw; cr, cl; etc.).
Section 2 is a step-by-step approach to learning how to write in cursive. It has recently been discovered that in the "old days" of America, printing was not taught in school, but students were expected to READ print, and WRITE cursive. Authors of "Reading and Writing, Fun & EZ" felt that teaching print was an unnecessary step. So, all the principles of learning to write legibly in cursive are presented. As soon as a child can hold a pencil, he or she can learn to write cursive. Lessons include basic strokes for the beginner and progress to writing easy words. Practice pages included.
